MANILA (25 Sept 2012) – The talismanic Phil and James Younghusbands have been left out of the Philippine Football Peace Cup which kicks off later today at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium and ends on Saturday.
The tournament which was formerly known as the Long Teng Cup will see the participation of Guam, Macau and Chinese Taipei.
“We have new faces in the team as compared to the last Long Teng Cup,” said Chieffy Caligdong. “Every team wants a good result.”
Added chief coach Michael Weiss: “We’ll probably rotate a little bit. I’m willing to give the players their chances.”
The Peace Cup presented one of the several avenues the Philippines are looking to strengthen their squad for the AFF Suzuki Cup in November where they have been placed in a tough Group A against hosts Thailand, Vietnam and the winning team from the qualifiers next month.
