MANILA (13 Oct 2011) – The Philippines national team walked away 4-0 winners over Nepal with Phil Younghusband on target twice in a friendly that was played at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
“We wanted to end the year with a bang and give a clear answer to people who are not happy with the team,” said Michael Weiss, the chief coach of Philippines.
“This is the way we wanted to play. Not to be arrogant but 4-0 is a mild result.”
In front of more than 8,000 fans, Paul Mulders provided the pass in the 18th minute as Younghusband then drilled it low past Nepalese keeper Kiran Limbu for the lead.
The older James then slammed the second goal for the home team at the half hour mark with a shot from the edge of the box.
The score stood 2-0 to the advantage of the Philippines until the 55th minute when Younghusband picked up a pass from Dennis Cagara for a shot from close range.
A minute to the end, it was Matthew Hartmann’s turn to make the score sheet making good on a short pass off Phil Younghusband.
