YANGON (24 Feb 2014) – A 4-2 win over Ayeyawady United on the road gave Yangon United the top spot for the first time in the new Myanmar National League (MNL) 2014 as they raked up ten points from four matches played thus far.
The defending champions showed their class to erase Nanda Lin’s 37th minute lead for Ayeyawady with the equalizer from Emerson (44th minute) as both teams shared the spoils at the end of an exhilarating first half.
But the second half would prove to be all Yangon as they piled on the goals from Cesar Augusto (54th minute), Kyaw Ko Ko (71st) and Sithu Aung (85th) as Ayeyawady then pulled a goal back through Nay Lin Tun right at the end.
In the meantime, former leaders Yadarnabon slipped down to second following their disappointing 1-1 draw against Kanbawza.
Edison Fonseca was once again on target for Kanbawza just a minute into the game but the equalizer from Tihomir Zivkovic right at the half hour mark forced both teams to share points.
Elsewhere, Naypyitaw edged Manaw Myay 2-1, as Zeyar Shwe Myay also picked up the full points against GFA with the same score line.
While Magway beat Chin United 3-2, Southern Myanmar were held to a 1-1 draw by Zwekapin.
