YANGON (16 July 2014) – Yadanarbon FC still maintained their position at the top of the Myanmar National League (MNL) 2014 despite picking up only one point on the weekend as defending champions Yangon United moved in on the leaders after crushing basement side GFA FC.
The Mandalay-based club went ahead twice in their match against Magwe FC through Aung Myint Aye in the 13th minute and also Fonseca in the 49th minute but the home team was quick with the equaliser on both occasions through Sylla Sekou (29th) and Mdengue (72nd).
With the one point, Yadanarbon have picked up 31 points from 14 matches played thus far with eight matches more to play for until the end of the season.
On second is Yangon United, who this week had little trouble to beat struggling GFA FC 2-0 on the road.
A goal in each half was enough to do the trick as Khin Maung Lwin blasted in the lead after just ten minutes before Cezar added the second goal in the 79th minute to ensure Yangon moved in within four points of the leaders.
Elsewhere, Ayeyawady United FC edged Naypyitaw FC 2-1 as Chin United overwhelmed Southern Myanmar FC 4-2 and Zwekapin United FC coasted past Zeyar Shwe Myay FC 2-0.
