BANGKOK (2 Dec 2008) – Datuk Worawi Makudi, the president of the FA of Thailand (FAT) has set winning the AFF Suzuki Cup 2008 as the target for the national team.
Thailand will open their campaign in Group B of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2008 against Vietnam at the Sarakul Stadium in Phuket in 6 Dec 2008. The other teams in the group are Malaysia and Laos. “The Thai team must only think of winning the title,” said Datuk Worawi. “If we don’t, it will be a failure because it is the Asean tournament and we are the kings in this region.” The Thai national team is now under the guidance of Englishman Peter Reid where recently, they emerged as the champions of the T&T Cup which was held in Vietnam. “It was a good start for the team under Peter,” added Datuk Worawi. For the record, Thailand have won the biennial AFF championship three times – in 1996, 2000 and 2002. |
