BANGKOK (March 19, 2007) – Worawi Makudi has been elected as the new president of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) for a two-year tenure.
Worawi, a populist figure in the Thai football scene, had served the national association as the secretary general for the past 11 years and where his election to the top post follows the decision by former president Dr. Vijit Getkaew to quit earlier this month. Vijit had held the post as president of Thai FA for the last 12 years. The election was held at the National Football Training Centre in Nong Jok with Worawi garnering 118 out of a possible 151 votes. “I would like to thank Vijit for supporting and guiding me all the time. This new job is a challenge and I would like everyone to help me to take Thai football forward,” said Worawi (pic), who is now the 15th president of the Thai FA. Worawi, who is an Asian Football Confederation (AFC) committee member, also sits as an Executive Committee Member of FIFA as well as in the Referees’ Committee. He is also the Chairman of the Committee for Women’s Football and the FIFA Women’s World Cup. The new secretary general will be announced later this month. |
