BANGKOK (6 Nov 2011) – Datuk Worawi Makudi, the president of the FA of Thailand (FAT) has denied any wrongdoing after allegations that USD 860,000 of development funds were spent building football projects on land he owns.
It was reported this week that FIFA had stepped up their investigation into their Executive Committee member Worawi, demanding more legal documents to answer the allegations.
FIFA said that they will launch a formal case if Worawi fails to show by 1 December 2011 that he donated the land in question to the FAT.
Worawi said to Bangkok Post this week that FIFA transferred the sum directly to the construction company and not to him or the FAT. About the land in Bangkok’s Nong Chok district, he said he had a letter of intent stating that he allowed the FAT to use it for free.
Citing a court ruling, Worawi insisted that such a letter of intent meant he had already relinquished his right to the land without having to transfer ownership to another party.
“I am ready to fight in court. I know who is behind the move,” said Worawi, who has been a member of FIFA’s executive panel for 14 years.
