BANGKOK (9 March 2013) – Dato’ Worawi Makudi is confident of winning the presidency of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in the polls that will be held on 2 May this year.
The chief of the FA of Thailand (FAT) is up against Dr. Hafez Ibrahim Al Medlej (Saudi Arabia), Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa (Bahrain) and Yousuf Al Serkal (UAE).
“At the moment, I have 11 votes from the AFF (ASEAN Football Federation) plus another from Australia. Now, I’ll seek support from other countries. I think I can get more than 24 of the 46 votes, which would be enough to win the post,” said Worawi.
“I have had initial talks with other countries. They all promised to support me so I feel relieved and confident that I will become the new AFC president.”
Worawi is also an Exco member of FIFA.
