BANGKOK (15 Sept 2014) – Datuk Worawi Makudi, the president of the FA of Thailand (FAT) still gave cash incentives to the women’s team despite their 5-0 defeat at the hands of hosts South Korea in their opening match of the Asian Games in Incheon.
Worawi gave the team THB 100,000 (USD 3,200).
“It’s disappointing that we gave away goals so easily in the first half, but we fared better in the second half. The association had planned to give the team THB200,000 (USD6,400) if they won the match,” explained Worawi.
“But for the players efforts, we decided to hand them THB100,000 as consolation.”
Thailand’s next match will be against Maldives with coach Nuengrutai Srathongvian saying that they need to quickly rectify their weaknesses.
“We learned a lot from the game, especially in defending. At the continental level, small errors at the back result in goals conceded. We must not commit those sorts of mistakes,” she added.
