HANOI (31 May 2013) – Vietnam have won the rights to host the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2014 scheduled to take place in Ho Chi Minh City on 14-25 May next year.
This marks the second time the AFC Women’s Asian Cup will take place in Vietnam after the 2008 finals were also held in Ho Chi Minh City.
The Vietnam Football Federation’s (VFF) bid to host the 2014 finals was ratified at the AFC Executive Committee in April but this was subject to their national team booking their place through the qualifiers.
Vietnam impressed in their qualifying campaign as the South East Asians topped Group C with a 100% record following victories over hosts Bahrain (8-0), Kyrgyzstan (12-0) and Hong Kong (4-0).
Vietnam, along with fellow qualifiers Thailand and Myanmar, who topped Groups B and D respectively, will join defending champions Australia, Japan, China and Korea Republic in next year’s finals.
The eighth and final team to take part will be determined when qualifying Group A concludes, with Uzbekistan, Jordan, Lebanon and Kuwait battling it out for the remaining slot.
Qualifying Group A matches will be played on 5, 7 and 9 June and will take place in Amman, Jordan.
