HANOI (10 April 2013) – The Vietnam national women’s team has called only two new faces for their qualifying round of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup that will be played out at the Manama Stadium in Bahrain on 22-26 April 2013.
The two newcomers are Do Thi Nguyen of Ha Nam and Nguyen Huong Giang from Thai Nguyen. The team will still feature familiar faces like goalkeeper Kieu Trinh, Nguyen Thi Muon and Huynh Nhu.
“Unfortunately, Chuong Thi Kieu is suffering a severe injury while several others like Ngoc Huong and Thanh Nhung are also down. However, I have had some alternatives and I believe that these players will play better next time,” said Chen Yun Fat.
Vietnam are in Group C where they will be up against Bahrain, Kyrgyzstan and Hong Kong.
“I have never seen such a big opportunity for Vietnam to attend the FIFA 2015 World Cup. There are five cards for Asia, while we often make the top 6. The rival of Vietnam may be Thailand or Myanmar,” added Yun Fat.
“I think if the team fulfils their short-term goals, we can absolutely dream of the World Cup 2015. In the immediate future, we will have to overcome the Asian Cup 2014 qualifiers in Bahrain, then the Asian finals. To accomplish these goals, I look forward to the unity and determination of the whole team and more attention from the Vietnam Football Federation and the media.”
