BANGKOK (15 May 2014) – Thailand are aiming for their first ever appearance in the FIFA Women’s World Cup when they open their campaign against China later today.
Thailand are in Group B where other than China, they will also have to take on South Korea and Myanmar.
Group A are Japan, Australia, Jordan and hosts Vietnam.
“We trained for three months for the tournament and every player is looking forward to our first match against China,” said chief coach Nuengruethai Sathongwieng.
“China are a world-class team but they are not as strong as they were a few years ago. They have made changes to the team with several new players. I think it is going to be an exciting match. Our aim is to qualify for the 2015 World Cup.”
The top two teams of each group advance to the finals while the two third-placed sides meet in a play-off for the other spot.
