BANGKOK (7 Sept 2011) – Thailand are still without a point after three matches of the final qualifying round of the 2012 Olympic Games at the Shandong Sports Centre in Jinan, China.
After conceding a 3-0 loss to Japan in their first game and then a 5-1 loss to Australia in their second match, all hope of a revival fell by the wayside when they slumped to a 2-0 loss to hosts China.
Two goals in either half through You Jia (40th minute) and Xu Yuan (80th) gave the Chinese their first three points of the qualifiers.
In the other matches, world champions Japan beat Asian champions Australia 1-0 while DPR Korea edged Korea Republic 3-2.
After three matches, Japan now have nine points, followed by DPR Korea, who are two points behind, and China, who have five points. Australia (three), Korea Republic (one) and Thailand, who are yet to open their account, round off the six-team table. Only the top two teams qualify for the London Games.
Thailand’s final two matches in the qualifiers are against South Korea (8th September 2011) and DPR Korea (11 Sept).
