JAKARTA (4 Oct 2010) – A total of ten teams will start to do battle today in the FA of Indonesia (PSSI) Women’s Football Championship which will be played at the GOR Ragunan in South Jakarta from 4-12 October 2010.
The teams taking part this year are DKI Jakarta, Banten, DIY Yogyakarta, Jawa Timur, Bangka Belitung, Sumatera Utara, Sulawesi Tenggara, Papua, Papua Barat and Jawa Barat. “We are looking at development in this championship where out of the 18 players registered for the meet, it is mandatory for teams to have five players under the age of 16-years-old,” said Papat Yunisal, the organising committee chairman. The PSSI Women’s Football Committee is hoping that potential young players will emerge from the championship which can then be used for the future Indonesia national women’s team. “It is for that reason that we have formed a selection panel to look at the players and they include former national players Patar Tambunan and Zulkarnaen Lubis,” added Eha Habibah from PSSI Women’s Football Committee. The ten participating teams will be divided into two groups with five teams each. The top two teams will then play in the crossover semi-finals. |
