DILI (5 Feb 2014) – Debutants Singapore have been drawn to face reigning champions Vietnam in this year’s AFC U-14 Girls Regional Championship for ASEAN.
The Singapore girls were drawn into Group A alongside the Philippines, Cambodia and inaugural winners Vietnam who will host the competition again this year.
Meanwhile, 2013 runners-up Thailand will battle it out against third-place winners Myanmar and Malaysia in Group B of the competition.
It will be a renewal of rivalry between Thailand and Myanmar as both sides fought it out to a 3-2 win for the Thais in the first round last year.
Each group will play a one-round league where each team will play one match against every other team in the same group.
The winners and runners-up of each group (total four) will advance to the knockout stage. The first, second and third-placed teams in the knockout stage will be awarded as the regional champions, runners-up and third-placed team respectively.
This year’s competition features two groups of seven teams as opposed to a single group of six teams in the inaugural edition in 2013.
The championship will be held from 10-15 June at the Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City.
