SINGAPORE (1 Oct 2013) – Having given the recent AFF Women’s Championship in Yangon a miss, the Singapore Women’s football team has not been at all on the quiet front.
With an eye firmly on the 2015 SEA Games which they will be hosting, the Singapore women recently went on a three-match friendly tour of Thailand. In the matches against Chonburi FC, North Bangkok FC and Bangkok Metropolitan FC, the Singapore ladies scored one draw and two defeats.
“I was very pleased with the way the team performed. This group of 22 players who had only been training together for the past two months showed great potential that I wish to further tap on”, said coach Mohamad Hisham Roslan.
“This is only the beginning. The FAS officials and I are constantly in discussion about furthering the success of women’s football in Singapore and they have been very supportive of the plans that I have put forth to achieve our objectives. I am very pleased to note that we are moving together in the right direction and we hope to unveil more exciting developments with regards to the team soon.
“Further, we have a very committed group of players in the team, and the spirit and camaraderie that they exemplified during the training tour is not only inspirational but instrumental in moving women’s football in the right direction. I would also like to commend Suzanna (team manager) for her dedication and commitment to women’s football over the years.”
