WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: SIEM REAP AND BATTAMBANG LEAD IN CAMBODIA

PHNOM PENH (7 Sept 2010) – Siem Reap and Battambang took the lead in their respective groups after just three matches into the Cambodia Women Football Cup 2010.

In the tournament which is being played in Banteay Meanchey Province, both Siem Reap and Battambang made it a perfect three-out-of-three to collect nine points each.

Siem Reap in Group A began their campaign with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Prey Veng before collecting their second win with a hard-fought 4-2 victory over Pursat.

Then they made sure that they are at the top of Group A when they overcame Kampong Thom 3-1 to push hosts Banteay Meanchey into the second spot with six points albeit with a game in hand.

Banteay were spot on in their first game of the meet with a slim 1-0 win over Pursat before collecting their second full points with a 5-0 humiliation of Kampong Thom.

In Group B on the other hand, Battambang showed that they will be the team to beat when they sidestepped Pailin 3-0, then overwhelming Kandal 4-1 before destroying Indochina Star Fish 5-0 for the full points.

The Cambodia Women Football Cup 2010 will end on 13 Sept.
