PETALING JAYA (12 July 2013) – The Malaysian national team showed that they have made big strides since their showing at the AFF Women’s Championship last year when they beat their Thai counterparts 2-1 in a friendly that was played at the Ramkhamhaeng Universiti Stadium in Bangkok.
Despite trailing by a goal early in the 33rd minute, the Malaysian girls fought back off captain Angela Kais, whose two goals in the 35th and also 61st minute ensured the visitors a famous win.
The Malaysians then followed up their win with a 2-1 victory over Northern Bangkok Women Soccer Club at the North Bangkok University Stadium., Rangsit Klong 3, Bangkok, Khamis lalu.
Norsuriani Mazli were on target with both goals in the 12th and also 51st minute as Northern Bangkok replied with a penalty in the second half.
The team under Jacob Joseph, which is being prepared for the AFF Women’s Championship 2013 later this year, will play the Thai national team once again this Saturday at the Ramkhakaeng University.
The AFF Women’s Championship 2013 will be played in Mandalay, Myanmar on 9-22 September where they have been placed in Group A against the Australia Under-19 team, Vietnam, Thailand and Jordan.
Group B are Japan Under-23, Myanmar, Laos, Philippines and Indonesia.
