BANGKOK (3 June 2014) –The Thai women’s football team has received bonus as well as further funding after qualifying for next year’s World Cup in Canada.
The SEA Games champions qualified for women’s football main event after beating Myanmar and then Vietnam to emerge as the fifth representative from ASEAN.
“This is a huge success for Thai football as we will play in the Women’s World Cup and the FAT (FA of Thailand) will celebrate our 100th anniversary next year,” said Datuk Worawi Makudi, the president of the FAT.
“We have qualified for the World Cup and we hope to reach the second round at the finals.”
For making the cut to the world finals, Worawi handed THB10 million (USD 306,000) to the team, while at the same time also announced additional funding of THB 30 million (USD 917,000) for the team’s campaign.
Worawi announced that they plan to send the team to Japan ahead of the Asian Games to be held in Incheon, South Korea (19 Sept to 4 Oct).
And just prior to the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada, the team will train in Germany for three weeks.
