HANOI (9 April 2010) – Vu Ba Dong has been selected to be the head coach of the Vietnam national women’s football team following the abrupt departure of Chen Yun Fat of China.
Nguyen Trong Hy, the chairman of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) made the confirmation for the replacement of Yun Fat, who had led the Vietnam women’s football team to the gold medal at the SEA Games in Laos last month. “Although the VFF wanted the women’s team to be coached by a foreigner, we felt that it is better not to wait as the Asian Women’s Football Championship is approaching,” said Trong Hy. “When the decision is made officially, Ba Dong (pix) and the VFF will select the squad members, who will begin preparations for the Asian Women’s Championship which will begin on 19 May.” The VFF are also short listing candidates for the assistant job and they are Nguyen Kim Hong from HCM City, Doan Minh Hai from Vietnam Coal and Minerals and Tran Thi Bich Hanh from VFF’s women’s football division. “I believe that Dong will do well in the job. If Yun Fat can sort out his personal affairs, he may return to Vietnam in early 2011,” added Trong Hy. The squad will go on a training session in China from 9-18 May. |
