CHONBURI (18 August 2019) – Vietnam and Myanmar made the semifinals of the AFF Women’s Championship 2019 after they each overcame their opponents with ease in their second round of matches in Group B this evening at the Institute of Physical Education.
Vietnam overwhelmed Indonesia 7-0 while Myanmar whipped Cambodia 10-1.
“Indonesia fought hard and they played better than Cambodia in our first game. But I think that this team is not as strong as the one we played against at the Asian Games in Indonesia last year,” said Vietnam head coach Mai Duc Chung.
In the first game of the afternoon, Indonesia could not have asked for a worse start than to concede in the very first minute of play through Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy.
They tried to shore up their defense to close down on Vietnam’s scoring chances but they could do little when the latter went on a double blitz to score four goals for a 5-0 lead at the break.
Within a space of three minutes, captain Huynh Nhu scored her first goal of the game in the 19th minute as Pham Hai Yen then added Vietnam’s third goal in the 22nd minute.
And just before the break, Huynh Nhu then added two more goals (40th and 43rd minute) to complete her hat-trick and for Vietnam to be comfortable with five goals in front.
Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung then finished things off with two more goals (61st and 63rd minute) for the final scoreline.
“We made some progress playing against one of the best teams in this tournament. We learn a lot of things from this game against Vietnam where our opponents were very well trained with an awesome gameplan,” said Indonesia head coach Rully Nere.
In the second game of the day, Myanmar’s confident 10-1 win over Cambodia has not only underlined their determination to win the crown this year but also set-up a mouthwatering duel in the final game of the group in two days.
The unstoppable Yee Yee Oo went on a personal rampage with four goals (45th, 73rd, 89th and 90th minute) as Win Thingi Tun grabbed a brace off goals in the 60th and 90th minute.
The other goals for Myanmar were scored by May Thu Kyaw in the 30th minute, Khin Marlar Tun (31st), Khin Moe Wai (64th) and Thin Thin Yu (79th).
Cambodia’s only goal of the game came off captain Somrit Nimol in the 77th minute of play.
