YANGON (4 March 2013) – Myanmar went on a rampage when they thrashed Guam 5-0 in their opening match of the AFC Challenge Cup 2014 qualifiers at the Youth Training Centre in Thuwunna as Laos were held to a 1-1 draw by Mongolia at the National Stadium.
Playing in Group A, the Myanmarese opened account in the 26th minute through striker Soe Min Oo and then Kyi Lin’s (No. 8 in red) penalty in the 40th minute and then Pyaye Phyo Aung for them to be comfortable at 3-0 at the half.
Pai Soe then nailed the fourth goal for Myanmar on 50 minute as Kyaw Zayar Win completed the rout with the fifth goal ten minutes to the end.
Myanmar’s next match will be against Chinese Taipei later today.
In the meantime in Group C, Laos were denied the full points when Mongolia came from behind to hold them to a 1-1 draw.
Vilayout Sayyabounsou gave Laos the lead after 33rd minute as Mongolia replied with the equalizer just before the break.
Laos’ next match will be against Sri Lanka.
“The first match of the competition is the most important and since we only managed a draw, we must give our all and win the next two games,” said Kokichi Kimura, the chief coach of Laos.
