JAKARTA (18 August 2009) – West Papua has emerged as the new Under-16 champions of the Indonesian FA (PSSI) when they beat DKI Jakarta 3-0 in the final on the weekend.
The tournament which is being used to select players for the Asean Football Federation (AFF) U16 Championship in Myanmar in October saw West Papua in complete control as they took a 2-0 lead at the half through Juliana Marike in the 17th minute and Fajariah Wattora in the 30th minute. They then completed their dominance with the third and final goal of the game off Susanti Natraka in the 52nd minute. “We are very proud to have won this championship. And we hope that through this win, it will help to develop women’s football further.,“ said Hengki Orisulu, the chef de mission of West Papua. West Papau completed their rounds of matches without conceding a defeat where their only drawn game was against DI Yogyakarta which ended scoreless. In the meantime, the national selectors – Risdianto, Zulkarnaen Lubis and Joppie Lepel – who were present throughout the tournament will be submitting the list of short listed players to PSSI who will represent Indonesia at the AFF Championship in less than two months. |
