BANGKOK (Nov 30, 2007) – Defending champions Thailand are worried about the cooler conditions in Nakhon Ratchasima – the venue of the SEA Games this year – which they felt could be a factor in their defence of the men’s football title.
Thongsuk Sumpahangsit, the head coach for Thailand, said that with the evening weather in Korat dipping below 20 Degrees Celcius, it will be important that the players take good care of themselves. “There are no worries with injuries but the cold weather conditions particularly in the evening in the province could affect the players,” said Thongsuk. “I have told the players to look after themselves. We want a fit and healthy squad for the tournament.” With Sarawut Jantaphan failing to show up for training, the Thai team have called on midfielder Apipoo Sunthornpanawet to beef up the 20-man squad. Thailand, which are looking to win their eighth straight SEA Games gold medal, will open their campaign at the SEA Games this year against Myanmar on Sunday. The other teams in their Group A are Cambodia (which they will play against on Dec 4) and Indonesia (on Dec 7). |
