JAKARTA (27 Jan 2012) – Djohar Arifin Husin, the president of the FA of Indonesia (PSSI) has set 2022 as the year in which their national team will qualify for the FIFA World Cup.
“At the latest, we will qualify in 2026,” said Djohar to Tempo this week.
Djohar said that ten years is enough for them to form a strong team considering the work which has already been done in the grassroots. He said that the PSSI are emulating the way forward with the Dutch model.
“We are looking at forming teams from the U16 all the way to the senior national team. And this will also include the men’s and women’s Futsal team and beach football,” he added.
Djohar also pointed out that other than having more age-group competitions in the provinces, the PSSI have also contracted Albert Pentury from Holland to look into coaching at the development level.
