BURIRAM (16 July 2011) – Immediately after watching his side struggled to overcome ASEAN neighbour Myanmar 1-0 in a friendly on Thursday night, newly-appointed Thai national coach Winfried Schaefer riled that the team will need to improve their scoring ability soon.
In the match that was played in Buriram PEA’s new I-Mobile Stadium, the Thais scored their only goal of the game as early as the second minute when striker Teerasil Dangda made good on a cross from Rangsan Vivatchaichok’s free-kick.
“The most important thing that we have to improve is scoring. We had several chances to score but could not convert them into goals,” said Schaefer.
“Many Thai league teams use foreign strikers and this may make the Thai players have problems with scoring. It was a good match. But in the second half, we allowed Myanmar to attack. We defended well but the behaviour of our defenders was not so good.”
Thailand are using the match to prepare themselves for the second round of the FIFA 2014 World Cup qualifying round against Palestine (23 July 2011 at home and then 28 July 2011 away).
