BANGKOK (27 Feb 2010) – With Iran expected to field their second stringers, Thai boss Bryan Robson said that the players should play for an outright win and not rely on the result of the other match in the group when the two meet later in the week.
Thailand will take on Iran in Teheran on 3 March in their final decisive match of the 2011 Asian Cup qualifiers while Singapore will play Jordan in Amman the same day. Iran have already qualified for the 2011 Asian Cup while Thailand are second in Group E with six points from five matches, Singapore – also on the same six points – and Jordan with four points. Only the top two teams will reach the finals. “Our players are looking forward to the match. We will play for a win. We cannot rely on the result of the other match,” said Robson from the Middle East. “We are not afraid of Iran. We want to prove that we can play against Asia’s big teams. “We are here early to adapt to the cold weather in the region. We are here to win a finals berth.” |
