SINGAPORE (13 June 2015) – Heading into the semi-final match of the men’s football event later today at the National Stadium, Myanmar coach Kyi Lwin realized only too well that they could not afford to make mistakes against Vietnam.
Kyi Lwin said that while they managed to recover to a 3-3 draw against Cambodia in their last match after committing several errors, the same could not be said of the more experienced Vietnam side.
“We did not have a great game against Cambodia. Sure the boys recovered to win at least one point against Cambodia but against Vietnam, we might not stand a chance to stage a comeback,” said Kyi Lwin.
“So we have to make sure that we do not make mistakes against a more experienced Vietnam squad. We are within a chance of making the final and so we should not leave anything to chance.
“We know how Vietnam will play, so we must be prepared and maintain tactical discipline. That will be key.”
But it is not only Myanmar who will be looking to make an improvement from their last performance where Vietnam were also brought down to earth when they fell to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of defending champions Thailand.
Vietnam coach Toshiya Miura were not at all satisfied with the loss and where he will be looking to make an improved performance against Myanmar to book their place in the final of the meet for the first time since 2009.
“We know the strength of Myanmar and we are prepared,” added Miura.
“We did not play well in our last game and this is something which we need to improve if we want to make the final this year.
“The players must be motivated for this.”
