SINGAPORE (27 Dec 2011) – V. Sundram Moorthy, the chief coach of LIONSXII, is confident that this team can only get better following their 3-2 loss to Johor in a friendly that was played at home at the Jalan Besar Stadium last week.
Playing in their first real test since their inception last month, the Singapore side fell to a double strike from Fauzi Kassim (18th and 41st minute) and another from Munir Amran (15th minute). The LIONSXII did manage to find the target twice through Isa Halim (30th minute) and captain Shahril Ishak (39th minute).
“It was our first game as a team and I feel confident that we can only get better,” said Sundram. “It was a good match for the team in as far as their physical preparation was concerned.
“Johor’s playing style is the same as the other teams in Malaysia which is to chase for every ball and the players must be able to adapt to this playing condition.”
The LIONSXII will play against ATM and PKNS in their next two friendlies as further warm up before their first game against Kelantan at the Jalan Besar Stadium in the Malaysian Super League on 10 January 2012.
