PETALING JAYA (6 Dec 2017) – Nelo Vingada has called it quits as the head coach of Malaysia – slightly over six months after coming into the hot seat.
A string of defeats including back to back losses to DPR Korea for the 2018 Asian Cup recently saw the 64-year-old tactician being lambasted all around.
It saw Malaysia’s ranking slipped down to an all time low at 174.
And today, Vingada finally announced in a statement that after discussions with HRH Major General Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, the President of the FA of Malaysia (FAM), he “takes responsibility” for the performance of the national team.
“With this responsibility, I hereby announce to relinquish my position as the national head coach with immediate effect and Tunku President himself has also accepted my decision,” said Vingada.
While locals Tan Cheng Hoe and Azmin Azram Abdul Aziz will remain as assistant coach and goalkeeper’s coach of the national squad respectively, Vingada’s assistants – Joao Arnaldo Correira De Carvalho (assistant coach) and Francisco Jose Bruto Da Costa (fitness coach) have also resigned with immediate effect.
“We wish Vingada all the best for his career in the future,” said FAM general secretary Dato Hamidin Mohd Amin.
