HANOI (4 Oct 2009) – The Vietnam women’s national team will head to Japan a week later than scheduled to allow the Japan FA (JFA) more time to arrange for better quality matches.
The team is being prepared for the 25th SEA Games which will be held in Laos at the end of the year. Initially, the team was supposed to be in Japan on 1-8 November but that has now been changed to 8-16 November instead. The JFA have arranged for friendly matches with the Vietnam national team on 10, 12 and 14 November 2009. Before their trip to Japan, the Vietnam team will take part in the International Women’s Football Open from 16-23 October in the northern province of Quang Ninh. In the meantime, two Vietnamese clubs – Hoang Anh Gia Lai and Vissai Ninh Binh – will vie for the Cambodia Royal Cup and the prize money of USD 20,000 of offer in the championship due to be held on 8-13 November 2009. The runners-up stand to win USD 10,000 with the third-placed team to take home USD 5,000. The invitation to both Vietnamese clubs was made by the Cambodian Prime Minister Hu Sen and Football Federation of Cambodia (FFC) president Sao Sokha. They will compete against the Under-23 teams of Cambodian and Laos. In the AFC U16 qualifiers at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City, hosts Philippines crashed to a 12-0 drubbing by Japan while Indonesia were held to a scoreless draw by Bangladesh. The two matches were the first qualifying games of Group E of the AFC U16 qualifiers. The next matchday tomorrow will see Chinese Taipei taking on the Philippines while Bangladesh will entertain current group leaders Japan. |
