HANOI (28 Dec 2015) – The Vietnam Under-23 team has set the target of a place in the quarter-finals of the AFC U23 Championship which will be held in Qatar next month.
This despite a string of unimpressive results in the run-up which also included a 1-1 draw against V.League champions Becamex Binh Duong last week.
Pham Duc Huy had given Vietnam U23 squad the lead in the 79th minute before national striker Le Cong Vinh levelled the score moments later.
“Results of friendly matches are not important, but the lessons that players learn after these games are of value,” said Vietna U23 coach Toshyia Miura.
“I still believe that we are within reach of a place in the quarter-finals.”
The AFC U23 Championship will begin on 12 January with Vietnam in the same group with Australia, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.
