HO CHI MINH CITY (15 April 2008) – The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) have announced that they will be hosting the 2008 AFC Women’s Asian Cup finals from 28 May 28 to 8 June 8.
Dr. Tran Quoc Tuan, the secretary general of the VFF said that since this is the first time Vietnam have been given the right to hosts the prestigious event, they have chosen Ho Chi Minh City as the venue for the championship. It was announced that the AFC will be having the drawing ceremony for the eight teams the Ho Chi Minh City on 18 April. Defending champions China and runners-up Australia have been chosen as the top two seeds for the two groups. The other six participating countries are 2006 Asian Games champions North Korea, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan and hosts Vietnam. Vietnam was chosen as the hosts of the event after successfully co-hosting the 2007 Asian Cup and the qualifiers of the 2008 Asian women’s football championship in Ho Chi Minh City in March. |
