HO CHI MINH CITY (27 Sept 2008) – The Vietnam national team will take on Myanmar in the opening match of the HCM City International Football Tournament-SJC Eximbank Cup on 1 Oct, 2008.
Both Vietnam and Myanmar are using this tournament as part of their tune-up for the AFF Suzuki Cup 2008 which will be held in December. For this year’s SJC Eximbank Cup, the other competing teams apart from hosts Vietnam and Myanmar are Turkmenistan and a University team from South Korea. They will be competing in a round robin championship with the winner to take home USD 25,000, the runners-up USD 15,000 and the two third-placed teams getting USD 5,000 each. The Vietnam national team have just returned to Ho Chi Minh City after a 10-day training session in the central highlands province of Gia Lai under the watchful eye of head coach Henrique Calisto. It is expected that Calisto will soon shortlist the 20 players from the 27-member squad for the tournament. For the AFF Suzuki Cup, Vietnam are in Group B against Thailand, Malaysia, and the first team from the qualifying tournament in Cambodia.
