JAKARTA (25 Feb 2010) – Vietnam won the third ticket from the ASEAN zone qualifiers of the AFC Futsal Championship in Jakarta when they beat Malaysia 6-3 in extra-time at the Tennis Indoor Arena in Senayan.
Ngo Duy Khanh was the hero for Vietnam when he scored all three extra-time goals – after regulation time finished the tie 3-3. It was Duy Khanh who opened the scoring five minutes into the battle for the final ticket to Tashkent before goals from Qaiser Heshaam (12th) and Addie Azwan (14th) gave Malaysia the initiative. Nguyen Hong Gien equalised a minute before the interval before Khairul Effendy restored Malaysia’s lead four minutes after the restart. Khairul’s 24th minute strike was looking like the goal that would see the Malaysian’s join Australia and Indonesia as South East Asia’s representatives at May’s continental championship but for Hong Gien to level the score for the second time in the match – forcing extra-time with Vietnam’s third goal just before the final whistle. Australia, meanwhile, won the qualification tournament following a 3-0 defeat of Indonesia in the final. Toby Seeto, who plays his club futsal in Spain with Lanzarote Tias Yaiza, opened the scoring in the seventh minute before Dean Lockhart doubled Australia’s advantage just seconds into the second half. And with two minutes left on the clock, Seeto sealed the victory with his fifth goal of the qualification campaign. Australia, Indonesia and Vietnam complete the AFC Futsal Championship line up, which also includes hosts Uzbekistan, China, Korea Republic, Chinese Taipei, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Lebanon, Iraq, Kuwait, Iran, Thailand and Japan. The AFC Futsal Championship 2010 will be played in Tashkent from 23 to 30 May. |
