HO CHI MINH CITY (4 Feb 2016) – Vietnam have targeted a top five finish at the AFC Futsal Championship next week as they look to win a spot at the FIFA Futsal World Cup in Colombia.
Only the top five teams at the end of the AFC Futsal Championship 2016 in Uzbekistan on 10-21 February will earn places for the FIFA Futsal World Cup.
Vietnam are in the same Group C as Asian powerhouse Thailand, Tajikistan, and Chinese Taipei.
“We decided to leave early for Uzbekistan so as to get acclimatized. It is hot where we are from while in Tashkent, it is very cold,” said Vietnam Futsal coach Bruno Garcia Formoso.
“Thailand will be the team to beat in the group as they are a powerhouse in Asia. But I believe that we are at the same level as Tajikistan and also Chinese Taipei. So we have a fighting chance.”
Upon their arrival into Uzbekistan, the Vietnamese Futsal team had played a friendly against the hosts where they were tied 3-3. Their next game is against China on Saturday.
