HANOI (24 Oct 2011) – Vietnam finished second in the VFF Cup behind Uzbekistan to inject further confidence for their campaign in the SEA Games early next month.
A 1-1 draw against Malaysia in their final round robin game last night gave them the runners-up spot as the former ended up third and Myanmar fourth at the end of the competition.
Vietnam had opened their campaign with a 5-0 win over Myanmar before holding Uzbekistan to a 1-1 draw in their second match.
The Malaysians on the other hand began with a 3-1 loss to Uzbekistan before beating Myanmar 2-1 in their second tie.
Uzbekistan won all their matches.
In the match between Vietnam and Malaysia, the home team nailed the opener with a 20metre scorcher from Nguyen Trong Hoang.
Malaysian captain Baddrol Bakhtiar then equalised for the visitors with a 25m free kick with two minutes left of the first half.
