YANGON (7 Oct 2015) – Vietnam advanced to the finals of the AFC U-19 Championship Bahrain 2016 after beating Myanmar 1-0 in their Group G qualifier at the Youth Training Centre in Yangon on Tuesday.
Ha Duc Chinh, who clinched a double in Vietnam’s 3-1 win over Hong Kong in their campaign opener, proved pivotal as he scored the lone goal on 19 minutes to place Hoang Anh Tuan’s side top of the group with a perfect record of four wins.
Hosts Myanmar, who were two points adrift of group leaders Vietnam before the game and harbouring a hope of leapfrogging the eventual group winners, finished in second spot with seven points.
Meanwhile, in the group’s earlier match, Hong Kong downed Brunei 5-0 to conclude the campaign in fourth spot while the Bruneians were left bottom of the group.
Ngan Cheuk Pan registered a double (41’, 58’) with Chan Pak Hei (39’), Harima Hirokane (49’) and Cheng Chin Lung (73’) getting in a goal apiece for the Bravo Gimenez-led Hong Kong.
Ten group winners and five (to be confirmed in due course) best second-placed teams will qualify for the finals while hosts Bahrain received an automatic qualification (total 16 teams).
