HANOI (Nov 9, 2007) – Vietnam will battle newly-crowned AFF Women’s champion Myanmar for a place in the final round of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup which have been scheduled for mid-2008.
Vietnam and Myanmar made the second round of the qualifiers directly following their top eight finish in the previous AFC Women’s Asian Cup which was held in Adelaide last year. The other teams which qualified automatically into the second round of the qualifiers are Korea Republic and Thailand. Following the official draw, Vietnam and Myanmar have been placed in Group A of the qualifiers alongside Iran and Chinese Taipei. In the mean time, three other Asean teams – Thailand, Philippines and Malaysia – will play in Group B where they will be up against Korea Republic to fight for the only two available spots from the group. Philippines survived the first round of the qualifiers after they beat Hong Kong 4-3 while for Malaysia; they beat Singapore 2-1 on aggregate. The second round qualifiers will be held on 1-9 March 2008 with the Asian finals to be played on May 28 to June 8 2008.
