HO CHI MINH CITY (30 March 2008) – Vietnam and Thailand are the two Asean representatives which will play in the final round of the 2008 AFC Women’s Asian Cup which will be held later in the year.
Vietnam ended their Group A campaign on a high note when they beat close rivals Myanmar 1-0 with the goal coming off Do Thi Ngoc Cham in the 65th minute. Chinese Taipei top the group in spite losing their last match 3-2 to Iran where they advanced on better goal difference as the second best team of the qualifiers which played all their matches at the Thanh Long Sports Complex in Ho Chi Minh City. On the other hand, Thailand made the 2008 AFC Women’s Asian Cup after coming in second in Group B following their 4-0 loss to South Korea in their last match in the group. In the qualifiers that was played at the King’s 80th Birthday Anniversary Stadium in Nakhonratchasima, Thailand had earlier demolished Asean neighbours Philippines and Malaysia. South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and Chinese Taipei join the top four seeded teams China, the reigning Asian champions, runners-up Australia, Japan and DPR Korea in the eight-team finals which will run through 28 May – 8 June 2008 at a yet to be identified venue. |
