HANOI (3 April 2015) – Vietnam have set the target of making the final of the men’s football event at the SEA Games this year despite having failed to do so in their last five attempts.
The last time Vietnam made the final of the premier U23 event in the region was back in 2009 and where since 1995, they have been the losing finalists for a total of five times (1995, 1999, 2003, 2005 and 2009).
Vietnam have never won the elusive men’s football gold at the SEA Games.
But from the positive showing recently when they emerged second in a qualifying group of the AFC U23 in Kuala Lumpur, there is every opportunity for them to do well in Singapore.
The AFC U23 qualifying group had included Japan, Malaysia and Macau with Vietnam losing only to the Japanese.
The team will start training on 5 May in Hanoi where they have penned in a game against the South Korean U23 side as well as another European outfit.
The SEA Games in Singapore will be held on 5-16 June.
