HANOI (23 April 2014) – A big year for Vietnam football has also come with a hefty price tag for the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) as the national body has set USD 18.2 million budget for the season.
The VFF will be hosting the AFC Futsal Championship (30 April to 10 May), the AFC Women’s Asian Cup (14-25 May) and also the AFF Under-19 Championship (5-13 September) and one group stage of the AFF Suzuki Cup (starts on 22 November).
“The funding for football during the VFF’s third term was only over VND40 billion and the figure has increased to over VND300 billion per year. Funding is expected to increase by 15% per year in the next decade,” said Le Hung Dung, the newly elected president of the VFF.
“We will give the best to the women’s team so it can win a ticket to the World Cup 2015 in Canada. The U19 team will also be invested in order to gain high performance at the Asia U19 finals at the end of the year and can compete at the World U20 finals in the future.
Hung Dung added that he would personally find sponsors to meet the VND383 billion (USD 18.2 million) budget which has been set in 2014.
