HANOI (16 Jan 2010) – After weeks of being cagey on the exact details of the contract negotiation, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) have announced their decision to offer head coach Henrique Calisto USD20,000 a month should he accept a new three-year deal.
The VFF also announced that the Portuguese will only work with the national squad although Calisto (pix) had indicated last year that he wanted to work for both the national team and a local club. Then, T&T Hanoi club’s chairman Do Quang Hien had made the announcement that Calisto would work for his club and also the national squad with a total salary of USD16,000 a month when his contract with the national body expires. But it would seem that the VFF would rather have Calisto administer the national team alone and where they have offered the monthly pay of USD20,000 which is not inclusive of a further USD2,000 per month in expenses. Calisto is currently paid USD13,000 by the VFF. “In the world, no team can succeed with this model (coaching a club and also the national team). Coach Calisto can only work for the national team,” said VFF’s vice chairman Le Hung Dung. In the meantime, Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) FC have put a price tag of USD200,000 to any team interested in signing Thai international Datsakorn Thonglao. HAGL’s manager Nguyen Tuan Anh said the club is willing to let Thonglao go but any club that wants to buy Thonglao would have to pay compensation for the remainder of his three-year contract. According to HAGL officials, three clubs want to recruit Thonglao – current Thai Premier League champions Muang Thong United, Chonburi FC, who are also from Thailand and an Indonesian club. However, none have directly negotiated with HAGL as yet. |
