HANOI (25 May 2011) – Nguyen Trong Hy, the chairman of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has confirmed Falko Goetz of Germany as the new chief coach of Vietnam.
He said that Goetz – a former coach of Hertha Berlin – will sign a contract worth USD25,000 a month with the VFF next week.
“We have already sent a letter to Germany asking Goetz to come to Vietnam and sign the contract by 30 May 2011,” said Trong Hy.
With the exception of a few minor points, both Goetz and the VFF have agreed on the major terms of the agreement which included a two-year contract with the VFF forking USD12,000 while the General Department of Sports and Physical Training contributing USD13,000.
But Goetz will not be required to lead the team to either the 2014 World Cup qualifying matches against Macau or the Under-23 to the qualifying rounds of the 2012 London Olympics against Saudi Arabia.
The Vietnam national and U23 teams will be led by Vietnamese coaches Mai Duc Chung and Phan Thanh Hung respectively.
However, Goetz will be required to win the 26th SEA Games in Indonesia this November with the Under-23 side.
