PHNOM PENH (Oct 19, 2007) – Teap Vathanak’s four goals led Naga Corp FC to one of their biggest ever win in the Cambodian Premier League when they blasted Red Eagle FC 11-1 at the National Olympic Stadium.
Vathanak was on target as early as the first minute before adding further goals in the 24th, 26th and 34th minute in front of close to 2,000 cheering fans. Naga Corp’s other goals were scored by Ngeng Dipita Herve Ernest (55th, 65th and 81st minute), Eang Saknida (66th ), Chhim Sambo (73rd) and Chin Chum (80th and 90th). Red Eagle’s only goal of the evening came off Chidindo Joseph five minutes to the end. With the win, Naga Corp are firmly on second spot at the table behind Phnom Empire FC who seem to have withstood the pressure well to win 4-1 on the road to overcome Lion Squad FC. What made the win sweeter for Empire was the fact that they had to come back from being a goal down – when Set Kamel scored for the home side in the 15th minute – before they were able to celebrate the win. Following a first-half deadlock when Akpeeze Kenneth slammed home the equaliser with seconds remaining to the break, Hok Sochivorn then gave Empire the best of start to the second half with the team’s second goal seven minutes after the breather. A brace from Ajayi Gbenga Samuel (79th and 82nd minute) then completed the rout for Phnom Empire to remain on top of the pecking order for yet another week. Two first-half goals gave third place Khemara Keila FC a well-deserved 2-0 victory over Build Bright University although the former did suffer the ignominy of having picked up five yellow cards in the game. Srey Veasna’s opener in the ninth minute for Khemara Keila was given further importance with the second goal of the afternoon from Sophal Odom (26th minute) for the three points. But it was not only Naga Corp FC who won big on the day where Royal Cambodian Armed Forces FC were also on fire when they thumped basement side Baksey Chamkrong FC 10-0. The goal scorers for Royal Cambodian were Nao So Seyla (4th and 16th minute), Khim Borey (18th, 36th and 47th), Um Komphiak (25th, 27th and 54th), To Van Than (34th) and Sin Dalin (65th and 90th). The win and three points strengthened Royal Cambodian’s position in the top half of the Cambodian Premier League. PIC: LION SQUAD FC vs PHNOM PENH EMPIRE FC |
