PETALING JAYA (19 May 2009) – The Malaysian national Futsal team will begin their tour of Uzbekistan this week in anticipation of the AFF Futsal Championship which will be held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam next month.
The Malaysians will be in Uzbekistan for a total of ten days. Malaysia national coach P. Balakrishnan said that the team will play a total of four matches in Uzbekistan – one against the national team and three against club sides. “We need these matches so as to better prepare the other team as training alone is not enough – we need that competitive edge,” said Balakrishnan (pic). For the current trip to Uzbekistan and also for the upcoming AFF Futsal Championship, the Malaysian national team will be relying on a combination of the experienced alongside several newcomers. And this is something which Balakrishnan feels will make the difference. “The current set of players is more flexible in that they are able to add variety to their game instead of just relying on the coach to give instructions,” added Balakrishnan. “I believe that there is a definite improvement in the quality of the players and so is the team as a whole in the last few years.” |
