PETALING JAYA (28 Dec 2009) – The FA of Malaysia (FAM) have announced a bonus of RM 30,000 (USD8,800) to each and every player of the Malaysian national Under-23 team which won the gold at the SEA Games in Laos recently.
Sultan Ahmad Shah, the president of the FAM who is currently in London conveyed this announcement through his special officer Colonel Azhar last night. “I hope that the team will continue to build on this success and where I would like to stress that the national team will continue to have a special focus from me,” read the message. The Malaysian national U23 squad ended a 20-year drought for the SEA Games gold medal when they beat Vietnam 1-0 in the final that was played at the National Stadium in Vientiane. The last time Malaysia tasted success at the SEA Games was back in 1989 on home soil when the SEA Games was held in Kuala Lumpur. With the win, Malaysia have won the SEA/ SEAP Games football gold medal five times – the same as Myanmar – since 1959. Thailand have won the most number of gold medals in the event with 13 titles. |
