BANGKOK (2 March 2012) – While Datuk Worawi Makudi, the president of the FA of Thailand (FAT) has no intention of looking for an early termination of contract, Winfried Schaefer the current chief coach of Thailand has indicated that he might not see out his side of the bargain.
The German had signed for Thailand on a three-year contract since June 2011. But following the team’s exit from the third round of the World Cup qualifiers this week, Schaefer said that he is still uncertain whether he would continue at the helm.
“At the moment I can’t say if I will see out the contract. We were eliminated although we had a chance to progress to the next qualifying round. We went out because we had not been well prepared,” said Schaefer.
Thailand needed to win their last group match to stand any chance of progressing into the fourth round. But a 2-0 loss to Oman saw them exiting as table proppers in Group D.
Schaefer also admitted that he had received several offers from Middle East teams.
