PETALING JAYA (2 August 2009) – Two goals from guest striker Bambang Pamungkas gave Selangor a well-deserved 2-0 win over Persib Bandung for them to lift the inaugural Selangor Cup at the Shah Alam Stadium.
However, the Malaysian Super League 2009 champions had to wait until the 56th minute of the game before they were able to carve out their first goal when Mohd Safee Sali delivered an inch perfect cross for Bambang to slam home from close range. Bambang, who had previously don Selangor colours but who now plays for Persija Jakarta, then doubled the lead four minutes later off an almost similar cross from Elie Aiboy’s quick counter-attack. The Selangor Cup is being staged for the first time ever and is organised by the FA of Selangor (FAS) with Selangor Crown Prince, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sarafuddin Idris Shah, giving out the prizes. For the record, the match drew more than 40,000 spectators. |
