HANOI (11 June 2012) – Vietnam picked up from their 3-0 loss to China in their last friendly match to beat Hong Kong 2-1 with striker Nguyen Trong Hoang slamming the winner in the second half.
In the the match that was played at the Mongkok Studium last night, the hosts took the lead in the 41st minute off Au Yeung Yi Chung through a quick counter-attack. But Vietnam fought back after the break for Nguyen Van Quyet to grab the equaliser in the 71st minute before Trong Hoang fired in the winning goal three minutes later.
The Vietnamese, ASEAN champions in 2008, have started their preparation for the AFF Suzuki Cup 2012 which will be held in November this year by having these two friendly matches under local coach Phan Thanh Hung.
It is the first time in 16 years that Vietnam have opted a local at the helm of the Vietnam national side.
